There’s no “one size fits all” approach for gastric procedures. What’s right for someone else may not be right for you.
That’s WLSA will recommend a procedure for you following an in-depth consultation between you and one of our specialists. Once we understand your unique circumstances then we can make real progress on your weight loss goals.
Gastric sleeve surgery is a weight loss procedure in which approximately three quarters of the stomach is permanently removed, allowing patients to feel satisfied from a much smaller meal.
This surgery offers a more lasting solution than the gastric band and does not require any foreign material to be implanted in the body. In addition, only minimal follow-up is necessary.
As a guideline, it is most suited to individuals with a BMI of 40 and above, or those with BMI of 35 and above along with associated health problems such as Type 2 diabetes, high blood pressure or asthma, among others.
The surgery is performed laparoscopically (as keyhole surgery), which allows for reduced pain and faster recovery times. Patients typically spend 2–4 nights in hospital before returning home and are usually able to resume normal activities within 1–2 weeks
