This week, we celebrate the successful WeightLoss of Fiona Swadling. Here’s her story:
Today, I am 63kgs lighter than I was 22 months ago. I exceeded my goal weight of 80kgs around the 12 month mark and have been weight stable at about 76-77kgs for the past 10 months. At the start of my journey, I was 138.8 kg, I was at my heaviest ever! A life of yoyo dieting since I was a teenager, banana diets, soup diets, Weight Watchers, you name it I tried it, lost a bit and put it on plus more. The decision to have the gastric sleeve was not easy and quite scary. I thought… ‘I have tried everything, what if I fail at this as well?”. I’m a very social person and it sounds silly to say, but I put it off for about a year because I was also worried about giving up the bubbles, but looking back, that was such a small thing to give up when I have gained so much more.
It was through stories like the one I am sharing with you now, that changed my mind and gave me the courage to give it a go! My close friend and I made the decision to do it together and chose to go through WLSA after lots of research and information sessions with other companies. It was a great support for us both, to not only be going through this together but to have such a supportive team from WLSA to fall back on at every rough and tough time, as well as with our successes.
My journey and recovery was very different from my friends and might be very different from the one you will have. I struggled for the first six months, I’m not going to lie, it was tough, but I kept reminding myself that this is only temporary in the big scheme of life and it will pay off, and…it did…tenfold!
My confidence grew with every kilo I lost (which I lost quite quickly in the beginning), my desire for food changed, things I craved were no longer a problem and giving up the bubbles was easy! There are also the ‘non scale victories’ because at times you will plateau, these NSV’s are important to focus on as well.
Some of mine have been, that I love to work out, getting fitter and stronger, fitting in plane seats, glamming up, having confidence to try new things, able to run, able to walk up hills without dying, not having sore feet constantly, able to wear high heels all day and shopping in ‘normal’ clothing stores. This is just a snapshot of the NSV’s that I have achieved. And it is still ever growing.
You might read other stories where their only regret is; they didn’t do it sooner and it might sound cliché, however in all honestly when you can say you are now living your best life, why put off something that will give you the tools to create your best life.
The decision to have the gastric sleeve was not easy and quite scary. It was through stories like the one I am sharing with you now, that changed my mind and gave me the courage to give it a go!
Whatever it is that helps you to take the leap, always remember your journey will be your own.
